BIRDS - CONURE HIGH RED

BIRDS - CONURE HIGH RED

A high red pineapple conure is a colour mutation of the green-cheeked conure that has a more intense red colouring on its body compared to a standard pineapple. It is a variation of the pineapple conure, which already features a yellow and red/orange color combination, and is known for being a very friendly, playful, and intelligent pet.

Characteristics

  • Coloration

This mutation is known for its vibrant, deep red colouring, particularly on the face, head, back, and wings. They have the standard pineapple colours of a yellow chest and red/orange belly, but with a higher concentration of red.

  • Personality

Like other green-cheeked conures, they are known for having a "big personality in a small body". They are intelligent, playful, and affectionate, and can be trained to do tricks.

  • Vocalization

They are one of the quieter conure species, making them a good option for apartment dwellers.

  • Size

They are small parrots, about 10 inches (26 cm) in length.

Care and lifespan

  • Diet

A high-quality diet is essential, consisting of a good seed mix, pellets, and fresh fruits and vegetables.

*Every conure is different and has differing dietary requirements so for your own tailored dietary plan please contact us.

  • Lifespan

With proper care, a high red pineapple conure can live for 25–30 years, with the average being 10–15 years due to factors like neglect or incorrect diet.

  • Socialization

They require attention and socialization to thrive. They can be prone to biting when young, but this behaviour can be addressed with patience.

Housing and enrichment

  • Cage: Choose a spacious cage, at least inches, with a bar spacing of no more than inch, preferably inch to prevent the head from getting stuck.

  • Perches: Include natural wood perches of varying diameters and textures to promote foot health and allow for chewing. Avoid sandpaper perches.
  • Toys: Provide plenty of chew toys made from soft woods, cardboard, and paper, and rotate them regularly to keep your conure mentally stimulated.
  • Bathing: Conures enjoy bathing, so offer them a chance to bathe in their water dish, a spray bottle, or a bird bath.
